End of the NEMMO project: the Next Evolution in Materials and Models for Ocean Energy
Last Wednesday and Thursday, the NEMMO European project consortium met at the SSPA premises in Denmark to bring 4 years of research and development to a close.
The aim of the EU-funded NEMMO project was to develop larger, lighter and more durable composite tidal turbine blades in order to reduce costs. The partners worked to improve the hydrodynamic performance and active flow control of tidal turbine blades. They also tested new composite materials and coatings capable of increasing resistance to fatigue, impact, cavitation erosion and biofouling. The ultimate aim was to reduce the standardized cost of energy for a 2 MW tidal turbine by 70%, bringing it down to 0.15 euros/kWh.
The two-day programme included a review of the latest technical work and a visit to the Danish Wind Turbine Blade Test Centre.
Thank you to all the partners, TECNALIA (coordinator), INPRE, TECHNION – ISRAEL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, DUBLIN CITY UNIVERSITY, CANOE, FUNDITEC , MAGALLANES RENOVABLES, BLAEST, SSPA, ITAINNOVA, Ocean Energy Europe, SPNano, for this unrivaled collaboration and teamwork..
Congratulations to all!
